Objectives

Collect information on catch and other scientific data such as (i) Species Composition (Target and By catch); (ii) Length Frequency; (iii) Sex; (iv) Condition when caught/ when discarded; (v) Catch-ability of the vessels/fleets; (vi) CPUE (Catch per unit of effort); (vii) Small fish issues; (viii) Set and catch (position) information; and (ix) Reasons for discards;

Ensure vessel compliance by (i) Recording of Inaccurate Positions on the Vessel Log Sheets; (ii) Checking Vessels are correctly recording target species, by-catch and discards; (iii) Checking Vessel Logs for not reporting of position or catch; (iv) Checking the fishing method that they are licensed to use; (v) Checking that there is no misreporting of retained or discarded commercial species and there is proper recording of by-catch species (Retention/Discards); (vi) Reporting on catch of special interest, i.e. Turtles, Dolphins, Whales, Birds, etc; and (vii) Reporting if the vessel fishes in areas it is not permitted to do so;

Monitor the implementation of conservation and management measures adopted by the BFAR and Commission (WCPFC).
