4th Batch of Fisheries Observer Program Training Held


An ongoing training for the 4th Batch of Fisheries of Observer Program held at BFAR MCS Station and Fishing Technology Laboratory, Navotas City. The training started on October 26 and will end on November 20, 2010.

The said training is composed of 24 trainees from different places around the Philippines. 9 of which came from the BFAR Regional Offices, 4 from the fisheries schools and 11 private individuals, but where fisheries or Marine Biology graduates.


Opening program was attended by the guest, from the BFAR Central Office. Encouraging message was given by Atty. Benjamin Tabios and Dr. Alma C. Dickson - Chief of the Marine Fisheries Development Center and the National Coordinator of the Philippines to the Regional Observer Program of the WCPFC.


As for the moment, the trainees already done with all the lectures and information they need to know regarding the observer program. They were taught by various instructors from different institutions and representative from WCPFC by which the Philippines is a member country on proper filling up of forms, species identification and data gathering needed once they were onboard the vessel.

 

They were also practicum on Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) for them to be fully equipped with the necessary skills during emergency. There was also instructor from National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) that teaches them on proper use communication devices on the vessel.

Upcoming events for the trainees is they were going to board MV-DA-BFAR a research and training vessel of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). This is the final chapter of the training where the trainees will apply all they have learned from the training.
